EURO-INBO, 22-24 September, Mégève (France)

From 6 to 9 October 2009, 110 delegates coming from 26 countries, representatives of governmental administrations in charge of water management, of Basin Organisations, already existing or being created, of interested bi and multilateral cooperation agencies, as well as many observatory organisations, met in Beirut (Lebanon), on the occasion of the 7th General Assembly of the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations and the International Conference on River Basin Management and Cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean Region, to define the most suitable actions needed for achieving the objectives of integrated and participatory management of inland surface and ground water resources and of related coastal zones in the Mediterranean area.

Mr. Fadi Comair, General Director for Water and Energy and Electricity Resources (Lebanon), was elected new President of MENBO. The General Assembly expressed it's high gratitude to Mr. Walter Mazzitti (Italy), MENBO President 2007-2009, for his very successful Presidency of the network.

The Litani River Authority (Lebanon) and the Tevere River Basin Authority (Italy) have been approved as new members by the General Assembly and MENBO can count now on 34 members from 17 different Mediterranean counties.

The 5th World Water Forum took place 16-22 March 2009 in Istanbul, Turkey. MENBO attended the Forum and participated in several official events and side events. Additionally the network has been present at the Spanish and the Mediterranean regional stand. 

In particular, MENBO had a very relevant role in the Mediterranean Session hold on the 19th of March that was co-organised by the Network and other Mediterranean organisations. Moreover, MENBO, as member of the Organisation Committee, has been in charge of elaborating the chapter of conclusions and key messages of the Mediterranean Regional Document, that has been presented to the WWF Secretariat.

The World Water Forum, organised every three years by the World Water Council in close collaboration with the authorities of the hosting country, is one of the largest international events in the field of water. The Forum offers the water community and decision-makers the unique opportunity to make recommendations for ensuring the security of water resources in the different areas of the world. MENBO celebrated its 9th Liaison Bureau Meeting and the 6th Members Assembly on the occasion of the EURO-INBO Conference in Sibiu, Romania 1st of October 2008.

The Final SPI-Water Conference took place 30-31 October 2008 in Brussels (Belgium). 

Under the topic Managing water related information in support of WFD and IWRM implementation nearly 100 experts met to discuss the following issues: 

- Bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and water policy implementation

- Presenting the enhanced WISE-RTD Web Portal as tool for sharing water related research information and operational practices

- Facilitating the transfer of Water Framework Directive and Integrated Water Resources Management experiences

MENBO was co-organiser and member of the scientific committee of this conference.

The Vicepresident of MENBO, Mr. Juan José Moragues Terrades, and members of the Permanent Technical Secretariat participated in the INBO session during ECWATECH the 5th of June 2008 in Moscow, Russia.

Members of the Permanent Technical Secretariat of MENBO accompanied the President of the Júcar River Basin Authority, Mr. Juan José Moragues Terrades, on a technical visit to the Amurdarya and Syrdarya Basin Water Organisations in Uzbekistan in June 2008.

MENBO was a partner of the Steering Committee of the TWINBASIN project and chaired the Special Interest Group on Twinnings.The Network promoted the contacts between the CHJ and other river basins.

The MENBO Liaison Bureau Meeting was celebrated in June 2007 in Debrecen (Hungary) back-to-back with INBO's World General Assembly. After some warm welcoming words of the former President of INBO, Mrs. Madeleine Jouye de Grandmaison, the present members of MENBO discussed actual activities and projects of the network.

2nd Steering Committee and 2nd General Assembly of MENBO and General Assembly of EIC.

Capacity Building Symposium on Integrated Water Management and Irrigation. MENBO and EIC    (Euro-Mediterranean Irrigators Community) organised this symposium within GWP-Med strategy plan. Obtain the results of this event. (resultados / résultats)

3rd Meeting of the Circle of Mediterranean Parliamentarians for Sustainable Development (COMPSUD). 3rd Mediterranean Regional Dialogue of Parliamentarians, NGOs and other Stakeholders on the protection of the Mediterranean environment and prospects for the sustainable development of the region. Results / Resultados / Résultats.  

1st Europe-INBO Group Meeting "Group of European Basin Organisations for the Implementation of the Water Framework Directive" and 1st Steering Committee Meeting of MENBO in Krakow, Poland. 25-29 September 2004. It was during the International Seminar "Water Days" organized in Valencia on November 2003 that the working group was created within INBO. With the occasion of this first Europe-INBO Meeting, on the 26^th of September 2004, the MENBO Steering Committee meeting was also celebrated.  

INBO's VI World General Assembly in the island of the Martinique, France. 24-28 January 2004. This Assembly covered important topics, such as the achievement of the Johannesbourg's objectives, INBO/GWP Associated Program, and the progress made by the Regional Networks.
