MENBO is a Regional Network within INBO (International Network of Basin Organisations) that promotes an integrated water resources management at the river basin level, as an essential tool for sustainable development. This organisation seeks to improve relationships among organisations in charge of water management in the Mediterranean region.

This website includes information, events and documents from other organisations and agencies related to water management, and promotes the exchange of knowledge among these. Most of the events announced, are thus from other sources, and include links to their websites.

The Regional Network was established in 2003, and is currently adding international members from the Mediterranean region. We hope this network will grow stronger with the support and collaboration from most of the Mediterranean countries that deal with river basin management.

On the occasion of the celebration of the XII National Congress of Irrigators Communities, celebrated in Tarragona on 10-14 May, our Network organised a MENBO special experts meeting on the 12^th May 2010, from 15:00 to 18:00.

In this meeting, the topics included in the MENBO action plan proposal, elaborated by Dr. Fadi Comair’s presidency (including aspects related to Water Users Associations and tools for the analysis of hydrological systems) have been discussed.

The 4th Workshop in the framework of MELIA took place in Amman (Jordan) on 21-25 March 2010.

The Workshop title ¨Benchmarking exercise and recommendations on the application of the Water Framework Directive¨.

The 8th World General Assembly of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) took place in DAKAR -SENEGAL, from 20 to 23 JANUARY 2010. Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, High Commissioner of OMVS (Senegal), was appointed new President of the network.

The Permanent Technical Secretary of MENBO, Mr. Javier Ferrer, and the PTS took actively part in the conference. Find the presentation given about our regional network here.

The World General Assembly of DAKAR was organized in five round tables:  

1. Institutional frameworks for action of Basin Organizations,

2. Prevention and management of the extreme climate phenomena of floods and droughts,

3. Monitoring and warning systems,

4. Formulation of basin management plans and action plans of the basin organizations and their financing,

5. Participation of local authorities, water users and the public.

The 7th General Assembly of the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations took place, at the invitation of the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water (Directorate General for Water and Electricity) and of the Litani River Basin Authority 6-9 October 2009 in Beirut (Lebanon).

On the occasion of the General Assembly the new President of MENBO, Mr. Fadi Comair, General Director for Water and Energy and Electricity Resources (Lebanon), was elected.
